In this day and age, nothing seems certain (except taxes and
death, as the saying goes).
Relationships, jobs, financial security, safety–all seem to be falling apart. Many are questioning even the future of our country, which has survived civil war, civil rights protests, depression and recessions, terrorist attacks and political attacks.
I’d like to say that I have confidence the United States will endure for another 240 years, but no one can know the future. All I know for certain is that “the king’s heart is like streams of water. Both are under the Lord’s control. He turns them in any direction he chooses” (Proverbs 21:1). As long as God’s will is for the nation to thrive, it will, until He determines our country has fulfilled its purpose for His kingdom.
But regardless of what happens to the nation we live in, regardless of what happens in our family life, and regardless of what happens with our career or finances, we can be sure of God’s provision and care.
He is called a Cornerstone: “This is what the Almighty Lord says: I am going to lay a rock in Zion, a rock that has been tested, a precious cornerstone, a solid foundation. Whoever believes ⌊in him⌋ will not worry” (Isaiah 28:16).
Isaiah was prophesying about the coming of the Messiah, the one who would be named Jesus.
No matter what circumstances we face today, or tomorrow, we need not worry, because God sent His Son to become a solid foundation for us. He is our Cornerstone through all trials and tribulations, as well as through triumphs. Take joy in that today, as we look forward to celebrating His birth later this month.
