“Has it ever occurred to you that nothing ever occurs to God?”
Our pastor threw out that little nugget as a side comment in a sermon on faith, and it stuck with me.
There are no surprises for God. He’s not sitting around thinking, and then gets a brainstorm: “Hey, it occurs to me that she needs a little testing today,” or “Maybe giving him some encouragement would be a good idea today.”
No, He knew you from the beginning of time. He knows what you need today, and He is already aware of what will happen to you tomorrow–or next year. He’s preparing you even now.
Our problem is trusting Him. Believing Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good.” Usually, we forget the conditions. The entire verse reads, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (ESV).
It doesn’s say that everything that happens will seem good to us, but that in His ultimate plan, for those who love Him, all things will be for our benefit. Not always easy to accept.
But important to remember. God is never surprised, and He will bring us through, if we have faith.
